I'm thrilled to introduce my new ANTIQUITY series
Each one of the silver greyhound images is individually molded, carved, sanded, fired, re-sanded, buffed, tumbled, oxidized and finally hand polished from .999 pure silver before being mounted on semi precious stones.
To compliment the natural, organic look and shape of the stones, I carefully tore the edges and oxidized each piece to create a unique one of a kind, ancient almost hieroglyphic effect...I LOVE the way these turned out!
The Pendant :
For this necklace I used RISING STAR new pendant release based on the original art work of Kellie Oliphant-Burns. I made a mold of the drawing and hand cast it using pure silver and formed it into an elongated oval..I love the cool effect it created of a square within an oval. Pendant measures 2" long (including the gorgeous Bali bail)
The Necklace:
I used to most incredible solid sterling silver, intricately woven Bali chain. I just recently came across these chains and can't tell you how much I love them, a work to behold! This necklace sits beautifully on the neck and compliments almost any neck line and is 16" in length.
The Closure:
An ornately carved, easy to close Bali style hook closure
Charms:
One pure silver hand cast oxidized 1" angel wing and 3 of my favorite Czech glass sterling wrapped beads
ABOUT THE PENDANT:
I had asked Artist Kellie Oliphant of www.doodledogspainting.com if she would be interested in coming up with a doodle that depicted a greyhound and incorporated a starfish somewhere in the design.
Kellie outdid herself and came up with 8 gorgeous drawings, I love each and everyone of them so have decided to release one at a time.
WHAT IS THE GREYHOUND STARFISH CONNECTION?
Those familiar with greyhound adoption may also be aware of the starfish poem and how it relates to the mindset of those who adopt these elegant, gorgeous, deserving, hounds.
My inspiration for these jewelry pieces stems from my personal identification with the poem.
The Starfish Poem
As I walked along the seashore
This young boy greeted me.
He was tossing stranded starfish
Back to the deep blue sea.
I said, "Tell me why you bother,
Why you waste your time this way.
There's a million stranded starfish
Does it matter, anyway?"
And he said, "It matters to this one.
It deserves a chance to grow.
It matters to this one.
I can't save them all I know.
But it matters to this one,
I'll return it to the sea.
It matters to this one,
And it matters to me."
